First launch

On first launch, Kora guides you through the connection methods most commonly used in the desktop app. Complete the connection, choose an available model, and create the first project without leaving the onboarding flow.

Select one of the primary connection methods:

Method Use it when What you provide
ChatGPT Plus/Pro You want to use an OpenAI ChatGPT account OpenAI browser login or device code
Models.dev You have an API key for a provider in the models.dev catalog Provider API key
Kora Cloud Flash You have activated Flash in Kora Cloud Kora Cloud key

Kora, OpenAI, and entries selected from Models.dev are providers or connection methods. The next step lists the models actually available through the selected connection.

  1. Select ChatGPT Plus/Pro.
  2. Select Sign in with OpenAI and complete authorization in the browser.
  3. If the browser flow cannot return to Kora, use Or sign in with a device code and enter the displayed code at the verification URL.
  4. After the account connects, select Refresh Models.
  5. Select a model under Initial model.
  6. Select Continue.

The available list is specific to the connected account and to the models supported by Kora.

  1. Select Models.dev.
  2. Search the models.dev catalog and select a provider.
  3. Check its prefilled base URL and enter the provider’s API key.
  4. Select Test Connection.
  5. Enable the models you want to expose in Kora, then select Add Provider.
  6. Select the provider under Already configured providers.
  7. Select an Initial model, then select Continue.

Use Add custom provider manually in the same flow when an OpenAI-compatible provider is absent from the catalog.

  1. Select Kora Cloud Flash.
  2. Paste the Kora Cloud key.
  3. Wait for the key to be validated.
  4. Select an Initial model, then select Continue.

See Connect Kora Cloud if you still need to activate Flash or create a key.

  1. Enter a Project Name.
  2. Under Working Directory, enter a local path or select Browse.
  3. Check the connection, provider, and model shown in the summary.
  4. Select Continue.

Kora can read and modify files inside the selected working directory. The project is created with the provider and model shown in the summary.

Enable Start the tour right away to inspect the main controls, then select Start tour. Leave it disabled and select Create project to enter the workspace immediately.

In the new session:

  1. Check the provider/model selector in the chat composer.
  2. Enter a request.
  3. Press Enter to send it. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.

You can change the provider and model from the composer before a later message.

Open Settings → Appearance. Under Getting Started:

  • Repeat onboarding reopens the first-launch flow.
  • Restart tour starts the guided interface tour.

Repeating onboarding does not delete existing projects, sessions, or provider configurations.

  • OpenAI login does not return to Kora → use the device-code option in the ChatGPT step.
  • Models.dev cannot load the catalog → check the network connection and retry; use a cached result only after checking that its endpoint and models are still current.
  • No model can be selected → refresh the connected provider and enable at least one returned model.
  • The selected folder appears empty → confirm that your macOS user can read the path and that the correct project folder is active.
